Creating Content

What is content?

In Loops, content refers to any entity within your product that users may interact with – as defined by the occurence of one or more events. Here are a few examples of content:

  • Products for sale on an e-commerce website
  • Course interaction within an educational product
  • Interacting with a template on a platform

Content interaction levels

Users may interact with content on multiple levels, and you will define each of these levels when creating new content in Loops (see Step 6 below):

Interaction level What it means Example Potential use case
Exposure  A user is exposed to the existence of content. They visited a particular product page If you see that a low number of users are exposed to certain content, try to improve its discoverability.
Intent A user shows intent to use or purchase the content. They added a particular product to their cart. If the conversion rate between exposure and intent is low, consider better explaining the value of the content or changing its location.
Usage A user actually uses or purchases the content. They purchased a particular product. If the conversion rate between intent and usage is low, explore whether there's a technical or UX problem that prevents users from using or purchasing the content.

These definitions can then be used in analyses such as Content Funnels, which helps you understand why users aren’t using or purchasing particular content.

How to create content

  1. Log into Loops and click “Data Management” in the left-side navigation bar.
  2. Click “Content” in the left-side menu.
  3. Click the Create Content button at the top-right corner of the screen, and a dialog box will appear.

  4. Enter a name and description for your content.
  5. Select an entity for the content – that is, whether it should include events on the “User” or “Account” level.
    • Note that the list of available events will only include those from relevant views. For example: if you choose “User”, you may be able to create content using the event “user_catalog_viewed”, but not “account_catalog_viewed”.
  6. Select one or more events that define each interaction level for the content:
    • Exposure (optional) – event(s) that indicate a user was exposed to the content
    • Intent (optional) – event(s) that indicates a user had intent to use or purchase the content
    • Usage (required) – event(s) that indicate a user actually used or bought the content

For each event, select the property that represents the content to be interacted with. For example: “product-added-to-cart” may be the event for the Intent level, and “product-type” may contain the identity of the content.

An optional “where” clause appears for each event, allowing you to specify additional conditions that need to be met for the event to be counted.

  7. Click Save.

Once the content has been successfully created, it will appear under “Content” on the Data Management page. From there, you’ll be able to edit, duplicate or delete it.
